This is a course aimed at understanding representative works and following recent advance on selected topics in seismology and geodynamics, including local crustal and earthquake studies, regional tectonics, structure of the earth`s mantle, and core and global dynamics. Topics will vary from semester to semester.
Requirement & Assessment :
The students are required to present papers and participate in discussion of the presented material. In addition, they are asked to be a principal investigator writing a course-related proposal and deliver a short presentation on the proposed research at the end of the sesmeter. The proposal should explain why the proposed study is worth doing and what kind of strategy and method will be undertaken to reach the specified goal.
The final grade is based on the weighted average of the performance in class (60%) (including presentation and discussion) and the proposal (40%) (including writing and presentation).
